We saw a noteworthy consistent growing and ripening performance of the Chardonnay vines in the vineyard this season, culminating in a uniform ripeness. The wine shows a light golden colour with a hay-green hue. The dominant stonefruit character on the nose is white peach supported by golden delicious apple. The slow ripening process in the autumn has produced a friendly and approachable wine showing a remarkable coherence of rich floral aromas of acacia and white clover. On the palate the immediate density and mid-palate weight of the fine phenolics is striking. Powerful and energetic fruit on the mid palate is characterised by hints of lemon and fresh coconut flesh, likely from the oak, laced with almonds and macadamia nuts. The fermentation and subsequent maturation in French oak with light lees stirring has brought a graceful texture and viscosity which is tailed by an electric acidity stretching the palate into a linear shape adding length and giving rise to an intense mineral finish. We expect this wine will cellar well for the first five years, but will give heightened pleasure for those willing to cellar for longer.
