The 2016 vintage conditions were very similar to 2011, but drier. Simply sublime! Overall we saw voluptuous wines with bright aromatics and a fine structure.
We constantly refine the oak barrels we choose to partner this particular wine with. They are chosen from high quality producers, who select wood with fine grains and toast level for low impact and optimum respect of the wine.
The nose is serious but playful thanks to the interaction between the fruit, oak and its natural structure. Black currents, blackberries and blood orange represent the primary fruit characters, with strawberries and red berries on the background. It seems that the oak derived characters like marzipan, Dulce de leche and vanilla are tertiary and merely there to support the fruit.
The palate is deceitful upon first taste. It appears approachable at the entrance yet the fine powdery tannins encompass the entire palate and keep the wine intact and rigid. It allows for a sappy feel that is constructive and well integrated. Cranberry, raspberry and a cocoa butter richness give a good sense of weight and ‘Pinot noir’ pleasure. A harmony already exists in this wine, where savoury, sweet fruit and acidity stand hand in hand without obstructing one another. We felt strongly to show this wine as true as possible; unadulterated. It is therefore neither fined nor filtered. A slight cloudiness or deposits in the bottom of the bottle can be expected. Cellar for five to eight years for optimum drinking pleasure.
Only 500 bottles produced.
