This is the second release of our “vision of the future”. Without compromise we endeavour to keep exploring the boundaries of the accepted and the unaccepted. Compare it to the Formula 1 of winemaking, where we can develop and implement new techniques in order to create a new Dry River paradigm; and enter unexplored territory, where a vision can slowly filter through to our flagship wine.
As with the 2017 vintage, we have blended Pinot Noir, Tempranillo and Syrah/Viognier to create a precise wine with fresh, floral and complex characteristics. Easy to recognise are the nougat, blackberry and blueberry coulis with Black Doris plum. Secondary are the fragrant decomposing oak with fresh hay and sea spray aromatics.
A narrow, tight entrance is followed by generous fruit concentration which ripples out to all sides of the palate. Despite the unusual blend the wine is remarkably unified and well balanced. Different oak regimes are used for maturation for the different wines, which fit together effortlessly and support the fruit in an altruistic role. The tannins, presumably mostly originating from the Syrah, are powdery in nature and form a spherical central with a delicate web extending outwards over the palate. The acidity is gentle, fine and central to the palate, allowing for a smooth and easy finish.
